Contact with The Earth

(, the shape of a foot): foot/feet (足),
: life (いのち),
{ plant, stable}: root (根) ,
{ opened, heart}: happy (しあわせ)

Recently I spent some time with the forest again, and I’d like to introduce you that conversation for this month. If you too try the forest way, you might have an instant relief from your stress collected this year.
In the below conversation, Y is Yoshiko’s talk and F is the Forest’s.

Contact With The Earth

Yoshiko:
I’d like to know your  thought.
A reader criticized me about the part I’ve written
‘respecting each other tradition’ as a way of EL works.
She thinks ‘respecting each future' is more correct.
Because no races and people in the past have been pure,
and respecting the past makes only problems and nothing good.
Therefore each ‘future’ must be respected, she says.
What do you think?

(The Forest softly swelled and laughed.
The light escaped from the red cedar canopy
and the shades trembled.
After a brief time, the Forest spoke gently covering me.)

Forest:
Well, keep standing like that,
relaxing your body with abdominal breathing.
Then focus your consciousness on the both arches of your feet.
Push them down against the ground,
imagining the roots are growing down into earth
deeper and deeper…

What do you feel?

Y:
Feel like a sort of ticklish.

F:
You had a backache a while  ago, didn’t you?

Y:
Yes, strange, I’m forgetting it now.

(I closed my eyes, and the roots ran down from my arches,
letting the toes swim in the air as they were)

Feel like I’m contacting with earth.
Then the vibration from the earth fills my whole body.
Mysteriously happy feeling!

F:
You knew it!
All you have to do is such an easy thing to feel happy,
and anybody can do it.

Y:
Trees are standing with this feeling,
and the birds sing like that as well, don’t they?

F:
(with a smile)
Do you think of the past or the future with  this feeling?

Y:
I wonder.
When I think about it, it escapes away.
I seem to sense only now; but very thick now,
as swallowing up all time.

I feel like a baby in mom’s chest and arms.
My body feels like united and harmonizing with nature.

F:
Anytime as long as you open your body and heart,
the mother earth gives you a hug like that,
and to all things born from her as well.
So that you can share the harmonious feeling with others:
even with trees and grasses, through her.

Everybody likes this feeling as their nature.
If you don’t forget about this sense,
even when you walk, you would receive the happiness
rising through your feet…

However humans often persist in a past or narrower
their senses and thoughts, facing only a direction
connecting to each goal.
Then they hardly harmonize with others facing different directions.
Peace is under the feet of anyone right now,
but unfortunately, they don’t find it.

Y:
I see. But everybody’s  now is made by a stack of
each one’s past, isn’t it?

F:
That’s right.
You wouldn’t exist now, if any of your ancestors had been lost.
Also all your past experiences since the embryo stage
relate to building your present thought.

Incidentally, you said the word ‘pure’.
What is ‘pure’?
They want things for bringing to their mouth to be ‘pure’,
and think their excretions as dirty?

If they knew and sense the underground creatures
that eat what human and other mammals excreted and make soil out of it for beautiful plants,
they must know that respecting only pureness
brings the end of lives.

The people who have ancestors regarded as evil or foul have
had much effort to survive surmounting the circumstance.
Then they must live now with irreplaceable characteristics
because of their history.
Earthworms, sparrows and any living things are now keeping
their characteristics  of lifestyle relating to all of their past lives.

Tradition and the past are different.
One page cut out of the history forming you is not you anymore.
But if it naturally continues to breathe for a long time
in you or among your race, it must be a part of your life.
Even if you became hate and tried to remove it,
after all you couldn’t; and it’s still supporting your life.
Tradition is such a thing, isn’t it?

Maybe you can say ‘respecting each other’s characteristics’
instead of ‘respecting each other tradition.

Y:
A hope for the future also helps us to survive, doesn’t it?

F:
Dear, a hope can’t be lying by itself at a future spot, can it?
It comes now to light up the future,
so that it can inspire you with courage.
When you sense ‘now’ slowly and deeply rooting into earth,
and communicate with others, perhaps you can notice
how each other’s characteristics are precious, I imagine.

Recent humans tend to think that a change could bring a hope,
forgetting the sense of peace from the earth through the feet.
The peaceful feeling includes everything, both light and darkness.
Don’t humans seek only light?

If they really want to get peace and happiness,
I recommend getting back to the tradition to contact with
the mother earth daily, as ancient humans did.

(Getting the early setting sun light in December,
the Forest calmly shone  with the deep shadow.)

Yoshiko:
