What Earth Language has been used
EL works in various directions. Here you’ll see what EL was used in the
past 30 years.
●Use of base-overlay ideograms
EL creates new symbols by overlaying bases usually as integrating the
definitions of the bases.
・Linguists and students in Europe and the US have used the EL dictionary
as a reference for semantic analysis
・ Creation of a "logo" for companies their logo in EL for not only on CDs,
but also on the tattoos of the player.
・Students majoring in graphic design used EL symbols for their design to
fit each purpose in architecture and interiors.
・ Got an invitation from a member of a creator group of ideograms
dedicated to particularly deaf and dumb people to become affiliated with
their group. I refused it, because deaf and dumb people can be free when
normal people use the same characters: EL had much larger purpose than
theirs. After that, the group is using the idea of base-overlay and some
actual EL symbol forms. I’d be happier if they got my permission for it
first.
Also, I have gotten several offers to support EL from several religious
organizations. I thankfully reject them, too. Because they want to use it
only for their propagation worldwide. And EL is based on nature in this
planet and shouldn’t be based on a culture including a religious activity.
・ Use for shorthand combining with traditional writings
Base symbols meaning such as nature, time, place, and move can be written
in one stroke, and many ideograms such as society, event, and emotion can
be written in 2~3 strokes, which is convenient for listening comprehension
and urgent written notes.
The function of creating a nickname sign with a special frame to show
characteristics such as round or tall in shape for your familiar person
can work only to you, also having a time-saving effect.
・ For the weather of your diary
Only an ideogram shows sunny, light snow or, strong rainstorm, etc. You
can instantly know what the weather was like on that day with the minimum
space for.

● Image composition for a hieroglyph
In some cases, EL bases are overlayed to form
a new simplified hieroglyph forgetting the original meanings of the bases.
Allowing this ability makes EL ideographic bases very small amount. Also,
it’s fun to use hieroglyphs.
・In addition to translating haiku into EL,
I tried to compose the illustrations (haiga) in hieroglyphs, which was
very well received by haiku poets in other countries, and the haiku
journal A Hundred Gourds featured haiku and haiga in EL. The
world-renowned Haiga- painter, Kuniharu Shimizu, also sent me a couple of
wonderful haiga with emoji type of EL characters.

● Phonetic symbols
(EL is usually used for ideographic
purposes and have nothing to do with speech, but some of the bases are
switched as phonetic symbols to express names and other sounds)
・Language teachers in Japan said that it was useful as an aid to teach
pronunciation in foreign languages. It is also praised by Europeans as
easier to understand and more powerful than the International Phonetic
Symbol.
During an e-mail exchange with a Swedish, the Mongolian Khomei (throat
song) pronunciation was conveyed in a single base-overlay of EL phonetics.

・ An article of overview of the EL system
is published in Taishukan's "Language" Artificial Language Feature Issue
(2006) as a representative work of artificial languages by Japanese.
●As a common language in intercultural education
A teacher at an international student
elementary school in Tasmania introduced EL into her class as a one-year
trial. The children from many countries with poor English had fun to
interact with each other in EL, she wrote. But too bad, the teacher
changed her job due to personal circumstances.
● Gestures
This is the way to indicate an EL symbol as
the shape and movement of the body. Since an EL base is originally a
hieroglyph, it is not only easy to convey naturally even if it is
expressed with form or movement of the body but also the performer can
feel like becoming the thing or the condition by himself.
Here are some examples:
・For health and relaxation:
When you draw a large wave by moving your
hands and arms to represent “the sea” moving your whole body, and you feel
in the sea and your entire body will naturally become the "sea." Get out
of the small world you're trapped in and become neutral. Even when you are
inside a building, you can feel the "sea" through the power of the image
of the symbol and the movement of the body. In the same way, immerse
yourselves in the image of becoming "the sun" to share the light with
others and becoming a "tree" to grow your own contents.

・For psychological control:
A psychological counselor reported me that
he was pleased to introduce EL to his clients. They chose a target symbol
and put it in a conspicuous place, so that they could get closer to
achieving each goal. It’s probably because one symbol is powerful
instantaneously to focus upon the target.

* The EL system seems complicated because it
works in multiple ways, but in fact, it can maintain memory and strengthen
symbolic power by multiple uses. Therefore, it is meaningful not only for
people with difficult bodies, but also for general people. And if general
people use multiple ways, the disabilities will be free on their
communication.
● As a means of communication with extraterrestrial intelligence?!
・German physicist Prof. Waldeck made a
presentation in the European UFO-related conference MUFON-CE (the Central
European Section of the Mutual UFO Network), which examined EL as a means
of communicating with extraterrestrial intelligence, and the article about
that was published in the same network’s magazine. (2006)
He also tried hard to build a German version
of the EL website, but gave it up because the German version of the
software couldn’t work for the EL base-overlay system.
● Songs in EL
・J.S. Kempinen in Finland, who had presided
over the Page on Facebook to learn Earth Language, published many fun
illustrations with EL ideograms and showed off his singing with guitar on
YouTube. The lyric of the song was written in EL and he sung it with his
own music. Reading in voice is unusual for EL but available, too. Each EL
base has a one-syllable name, so that you can convey an image with its
pronunciation. The sound of EL was like fairy ‘s singing.
● Saving time and the ability of organizing information:
・Mindy in Lithuania is a multilingual
linguist, including Japanese and Chinese. His interest in EL is in its
futuristic nature, which allows the user to receive meaning without the
need for audio and save time. It is useful to insert information in
tables, graphs, maps, mind maps, etc., in a concise manner, and is
efficient for international presentations and our future lives.

[ 地球語は、これまでどんなふうに利用されたか ]
地球語は多様に働くので、用途別に記します。
●表意重ね文字の利用
（地球語は象形を単純化した基礎記号を重ね合わせて造字）
・欧米の言語関係者や学生たちが意味分析の参考に
・会社やグループの「ロゴ」作成
ベルギーのロックバンドのロゴは、CDだけでなく奏者の入れ墨にも。
・グラフィックデザイン専攻の学生たちが、目的に合うシンボルを建築や平面・インテリアのデザインに。
・聾唖者専用の文字のサークルメンバーから彼らの傘下に入らないかとのお誘い。健常者が同じ文字を使ってこそ聾唖者が自由になるのだからとお断りすると、地球
語の重ね文字アイデアといくつかの記号を無断でご利用。
・速記用に伝統語と混ぜて使用
自然・人工・生命・物質などの記号は1ストローク、社会・催し・感情など多くの文字も２～３ストロークで記せるので、聞き取りや急ぎの筆記メモに便利。速記体
験で使用文字数が自然に増える。丸顔、のっぽなどの特徴を形で示し、自分だけに通ずるニックネーム文字を作成する機能も時短効果あり。
・日記にその日の天気：快晴・小雪・暴風雨などを1文字で記すと、スペースを縮小、読み取りも一瞬化。

●象形文字で画像構成
基礎記号を重ねて、元の意味とは別の何かを単純化した象形文字を構成する場合がある。
・短詩や俳句を地球語訳するとともに、そのイラスト（俳画）を象形文字で構成してみたところ、諸外国の俳人たちに大いに受け、俳句ジャーナルのA
Hundred Gourds
では、地球語訳の俳句と俳画の特集も組まれた。世界的に著名な俳画のリーダー、清水国治さんからも地球語の絵文字利用のすてきな俳画が2度届いた。

2010年以降は、FacebookのEarth Language ページにときどき地球語俳句や俳画を掲載。
●発音記号
（地球語の記号は、ふつう音声とは関係せず、表意目的に用いるが、一部を発音記号として切り替え、名前その他の音声の表現も可能）
・日本の語学教師たちから、外国語の発音指導に補助手段として便利との声。欧州からも、国際表音記号よりもわかりやすくパワフルと評価。
・スエーデン人とのメール交流中、モンゴルのホーメイ（喉唄）の発声法が地球語の1文字で伝わった。

●異文化間教育で共通語として
・タスマニアの留学生小学校の先生が、ことばの通じない多国の子供たちに簡単な地球語で交流する授業を1年間試運転。子供たちには大人気だったそう。残念なが
ら先生は私的事情で転職。
●身振り語
これは、基礎記号を体の形や動きで示すもの。元来が象形なので、体で表現しても自然に伝わりやすいだけでなく、演者がそのものになり切る感覚を味わえる。共通
化が進んだ将来には、ストーリーのあるダンスや無言劇に活かせるが、これまでの利用例では：
・健康とリラックスに：
たとえば、場所を表す両手両腕と体中を動かして大きな波を描き、全身で海をイメージするとき、自然に体が「海」になる。自分を閉じ込めている小世界から抜け出
てニュートラルになる。ビルの中に居てさえ、シンボルによるイメージ力と体の動きによって「海」を感じる。同様に、「太陽」になって他者に光を分かつ、「木」
になって自身の内容が大きく育つイメージに浸る。などを「瞑想体操」としていくつかのグループで紹介・実施した結果、とても楽しんでいただけた。

●心理的なコントロールに
・心理カウンセラーさんから、クライアントに地球語シンボルを紹介して喜ばれたとの報告。目標とするシンボルを選んで目につくところに貼り、目標達成に近づけ
そうだと。一文字シンボルは、使えば使うほど瞬時の意識集中力が高まるからだろう。
上記のリンクでは、スマイルの象形文字を額に染め付けたイメージを保って、にこやかに心開く習慣を身につける例も紹介している。
＊地球語は、多手段に展開するので複雑に見えるが、実は多手段によって記憶を保ち、シンボル力の強化もできる。だから特殊な身体の
人々だけでなく、健常者にも意義深い。そして健常者が多手段を利用すれば、障害者との壁がはずれる。
