A Poem and the Pictograph Jan, 2001
. . . .

This is an EL experimental page with  English and Japanese.

For the first month of this century, let's listen to a voice from a fresh life. A three-year-old Japanese boy, Daisuke Tanaka told this to his mom, and the mom recorded it*. I used to do the same thing while my son was two to four. All little children are poets, aren't they?

* from "Mainichi Yoroku", Hokubei Mainichi newspaper Dec. 13th 00, originally from the book "Poetry who were born wishing to see you"( published by Shincho-sha )
Original Japanese:
あのねママ ボクどうして生まれてきたのかしってる?
ボクね ママにあいたくて うまれてきたんだよ

English translation:
Mom, Do you know why I was born?
I was born because I wished to see you, Mom

(* In2006, the setting of mother changed into as the combination of the former female-life; but this page has been as it was.)

EL translation:

01 39( sense ) 01: to get an attention from Japanese word 'anone'; If the talker is adult, 'Say,' might be used for it in English. but I couldn't find the proper English word for a little boy and translated into just calling 'Mom'. The boy tries to get his mom's attention. Then :( mother/mom/mum : { upper generation(17), female(19), life(67)} ) is following putting another dot next. This is a example of a special usage of #01( dot ) for working with others.(注意をひくための冒頭符、つづくママに呼びかけている)
01 57( wonder ) 01: to show the following sentence is an question. as another example of the #01 usage for working with others.(質問するときの冒頭符)

{gd( verb ), 53( situation ), 57( wonder )}: a d-verb symbol of wondering about the situation of the subject of the sentence (〜な状態かどうかの疑問符)

{14( way ), 22( origin )}: reason(わけ)
{dl. preposition mark} dr: the contents modefy the front word (括弧の中身が前の語を修飾)
